What Pod Point chargers are available?
We stock the Pod Point Solo 3S, which is Pod Point's current home EV charger. It is available in two versions: untethered with a universal Type 2 socket at £480, and tethered with a 5m permanently attached cable at £530. Both versions are 7.4kW smart chargers suitable for all UK homes with a standard single-phase electricity supply. The Solo 3S features a compact wall-mounted design, app control via the Pod Point app, scheduled charging for off-peak electricity rates and energy monitoring to track your usage. Both versions are OZEV approved and eligible for the UK government EV chargepoint grant.
How much does a Pod Point charger cost?
The Pod Point Solo 3S untethered starts from £480 and the tethered version with a 5m cable from £530. Both prices include free UK delivery from eChargers. Installation costs vary depending on the complexity of your setup — the OZEV EV chargepoint grant provides up to £350 off the installation cost for eligible homeowners and tenants with off-street parking, reducing the overall cost significantly. For the charger unit alone, Pod Point sits in the mid-range of the UK home charger market, comparable to the Ohme ePod (£498) and the Easee One (£482).
What is the difference between tethered and untethered Pod Point chargers?
The Pod Point Solo 3S tethered (£530) has a 5m cable permanently attached to the unit — you simply grab the cable and plug it into your car. The untethered version (£480) has a Type 2 socket and you plug in your own charging cable. Tethered is more convenient for single-car households as there is nothing to carry or store. Untethered is more flexible if you share the charger between different vehicles or want to use a longer cable. Both versions deliver the same 7.4kW charging speed and have the same smart features. If you are unsure, tethered is the more popular choice for home use.
Is Pod Point compatible with smart energy tariffs?
Yes — the Pod Point Solo 3S is a smart charger that supports scheduled charging via the Pod Point app. You can set timers to charge overnight when electricity rates are at their cheapest. Pod Point works with time-of-use tariffs by allowing you to set manual schedules that align with your tariff's off-peak window. For direct tariff integration with providers like OVO and Octopus, see our range of OVO Charge Anytime compatible chargers and our smart EV charger guide.
Is Pod Point eligible for the OZEV grant?
Yes — both Pod Point Solo 3S models (tethered and untethered) are OZEV approved and eligible for the UK government EV chargepoint grant, which provides up to £350 off the cost of a home charger installation for homeowners and tenants with off-street parking. The grant is claimed by your OZEV-approved installer at the point of installation. Read our full guide to OZEV grants and EV charger funding in 2026 or our EV charger installation guide.
How does Pod Point compare to other home EV chargers?
The Pod Point Solo 3S is a solid mid-range smart home charger that competes well on price, design and reliability. At £480 for the untethered version, it sits between the budget end of the market (VCHRGD Seven Pro at £390, Indra Smart PRO at £410) and premium options like Andersen (from £680). Pod Point's strength is its brand recognition and straightforward app experience. For solar panel integration, the MyEnergi Zappi is the better choice. For the lowest price, the VCHRGD or Indra are cheaper. For smart tariff automation with OVO or Octopus, the Ohme Home Pro offers deeper integration. Not sure which charger is right for you?
