Do I need to buy a cable?

Yes, unless your car came with one. The untethered Point 2 has a Type 2 socket, so you use a portable Type 2 lead and put it back in the boot afterwards. If you would rather the cable stayed attached, the tethered Point 2 comes with a 7.5m lead.

How does it compare to the original NexBlue Point?

The Point 2 replaces it. Same 7.4kW untethered format and the same price, but newer hardware - ISO 15118 for V2G and Plug and Charge, solar surplus charging, Ethernet alongside Wi-Fi and 4G, and a 5-year warranty. Choose the Point 2 for any new installation.

What charging speed will I actually see?

Up to about 25 to 30 miles of range an hour at 7.4kW. The limiting factor is nearly always the car - if its onboard AC charger tops out at 3.6kW or 6.6kW, that is the speed you get regardless of the wallbox.

Will it work with my energy tariff?

It supports OVO Charge Anytime and Intelligent Octopus Go. Most chargers pair with one or the other, so being on both lists means you can change supplier without changing the hardware on your wall.

Can it charge from my solar panels?

Yes. Solar surplus charging diverts spare generation into the car rather than exporting it, and the wired CT clamp needed for that, and for dynamic load balancing, is supplied in the box.

Am I eligible for the OZEV grant?

The EV Chargepoint Grant is worth up to 350 pounds, but only for people living in flats or rented homes with off-street parking - it is not open to standard homeowners. The Point 2 is OZEV approved, and the claim is submitted by an OZEV-authorised installer.
