Simpson & Partners EV Chargers

Simpson & Partners EV chargers are British-designed home chargers built around a choice of premium finishes — metal and wood lids and a wide range of front colours — rather than the usual white plastic box. We stock 6 products across the Home Series V3 range: the V3 Basic 7.4kW untethered (£615), the V3 Plus untethered (£740), tethered with a 7m or 10m cable (£800) and in 22kW three-phase (£860), plus freestanding versions at £1,175 and £1,360 for driveways with no suitable wall. All are OZEV grant eligible and work with smart tariffs including Octopus Intelligent Go. To finish the installation, the matching Simpson & Partners cable hook (£55) comes in 14 colours to sit beside the charger. Free UK delivery.

What Simpson & Partners chargers are available?

All six are from the Home Series V3 range. The V3 Basic 7.4kW untethered (£615) is the entry point — smart charging, tariff integration and solar compatibility in the standard finish. The V3 Plus adds premium metal or wood lid options and a wider colour choice, available untethered at £740, tethered with a 7m or 10m cable at £800, and in 22kW three-phase at £860. The freestanding V3 Plus mounts on its own pedestal rather than a wall, at £1,175 for 7.4kW and £1,360 for 22kW — the option for driveways and parking areas with no wall in the right place.

What is the difference between the V3 Basic and V3 Plus?

Charging performance is the same — 7.4kW single phase, smart, tariff-integrated and solar compatible on both. The Plus is about finish and specification: enhanced metal or wood lid options and a wider range of front colours, which is the reason most people choose it. It is also the only version available tethered, in 22kW, or freestanding, so if you want a permanently attached cable, three-phase charging or a pedestal mount, the Plus is the range to look at. For a standard wall installation where appearance is not the deciding factor, the Basic at £615 does the same job for £125 less.

Do Simpson & Partners chargers work with smart tariffs?

Yes — the Home Series V3 range integrates with Octopus Intelligent Go, so Octopus can schedule charging into the cheapest overnight hours automatically rather than you setting timers. They are also solar compatible, so surplus generation from your own panels can go into the car instead of back to the grid. Between the two, most owners cover the majority of their charging at off-peak or self-generated rates. Read our smart EV charger guide for how the tariff integrations compare.

Should I choose tethered or untethered?

Tethered means the cable is permanently attached — you grab it and plug in, with nothing to carry or store. Untethered means a Type 2 socket and your own cable, which suits households running two different EVs, anyone who wants a longer cable later, or drivers who prefer the unit to look clean with nothing hanging off it. Simpson & Partners offer the V3 Plus tethered with an unusually generous 7m or 10m cable (£800), which is worth noting if the parking space is not directly beside the wall. Both types charge at the same speed and both are OZEV eligible.

When is a freestanding charger the right choice?

When there is no wall where the car parks. That covers open driveways, parking set back from the house, gravel frontages, and any situation where running a cable to the nearest wall would mean a long, visible surface run. The freestanding V3 Plus mounts on its own pedestal at £1,175 for 7.4kW or £1,360 for 22kW, keeping the charger exactly where the car sits. It is a meaningful step up in price over a wall unit, so it is worth checking whether a standard charger post with a wall-mount unit would achieve the same result for less.

Are Simpson & Partners chargers OZEV grant eligible?

Yes — every Home Series V3 model is OZEV approved and eligible for the EV chargepoint grant, worth up to £350 off a home installation for eligible homeowners, tenants and landlords with off-street parking. The grant is claimed by your OZEV-authorised installer and deducted from the bill, so you pay the reduced amount upfront. The 22kW models are also eligible for the Workplace Charging Scheme where fitted at a business. See all OZEV approved chargers.
