What Humax EV chargers are available?

Both are versions of the Humax MX7 7.4kW smart charger. The untethered model (£550) has a Type 2 socket and you plug in your own cable. The tethered model (£580) comes with the cable permanently attached in a 5m or 7.5m length. Both include app control, RFID access for shared use, solar compatibility, Plug & Play setup and V2G/V2H hardware readiness, and both are OZEV grant approved. How much does the Humax MX7 cost?

The MX7 untethered is £550 and the tethered version £580, both including free UK delivery. That is mid-to-upper market for a 7.4kW home charger — above the Easee One (£482) and Pod Point Solo 3S (£465), below Andersen and Simpson & Partners — with the V2G readiness and RFID access accounting for much of the difference. What does V2G and V2H ready mean?

V2G (vehicle-to-grid) means power can flow from the car's battery back into the grid, and V2H (vehicle-to-home) means it can run your house. Both turn an EV into a large home battery — charging cheaply overnight and discharging during expensive hours, or covering a power cut. The MX7 is hardware ready for this, meaning the unit itself will not need replacing when the capability is enabled, though it also requires a compatible vehicle and a supporting energy tariff. If you are buying a charger you expect to keep for a decade, that readiness is worth paying for.

Should I choose the tethered or untethered MX7?

The tethered MX7 (£580) has the cable permanently attached in 5m or 7.5m, so charging is grab-and-plug with nothing to store — the easier option for a single-car household. The untethered version (£550) takes your own Type 2 cable, which suits homes with two different EVs, anyone who wants a longer cable later, or drivers who prefer nothing hanging from the wall. The price gap is only £30, so the decision is genuinely about how you want to use it rather than cost.

Is the Humax MX7 OZEV grant eligible?

Yes — both MX7 models are OZEV approved and eligible for the EV chargepoint grant, worth up to £350 off a home charger installation for eligible homeowners, tenants and landlords with off-street parking.
