Tethered 22kW EV chargers come with a Type 2 cable permanently attached, so a driver simply grabs the lead and plugs in. On a commercial site that suits closed environments — fleet depots, staff-only bays, sites where the same vehicles return daily — rather than public parking. We stock 4 tethered 22kW chargers from £570, including the EVEC VEC04 with a 6.5m cable (£570), the Andersen Quartz 22kW (£965) and the Rolec Zura 22kW with a 5m cable (£1,130). Free UK delivery and trade pricing on multi-unit orders.
Where the same drivers use the same bays every day and speed of use matters more than flexibility. A fleet depot turning round twenty vans is the clearest case: nobody wants twenty cables to store, find and carry. Staff-only bays at a workplace are similar. What tethered does not suit is public or visitor parking — a fixed cable in an open car park is exposed to damage and theft, it fits only vehicles that take that connector, and replacing one means a service visit rather than the driver buying a new lead.
How much do tethered 22kW chargers cost?
The EVEC VEC04 with a 6.5m cable is £570 and the most affordable tethered 22kW unit we stock. The Andersen Quartz 22kW tethered with a 6.5m cable is £965, and the Rolec Zura 22kW tethered with 5m is £1,130. All prices include free UK delivery. Tethered units typically carry a premium of £50 to £100 over the equivalent untethered model, which is roughly the cost of the cable.
What cable length should I choose?
Measure from where the charger will be fitted to where the vehicle's charging port sits when parked — not to the vehicle itself. Ports may be at the front, rear or on the far side, which can add several metres to what looks like a short run. 5m suits bays directly in front of the unit; 6.5m or longer is safer where vehicles park at an angle, reverse in on some days and not others, or where the bay is offset from the charger.
Are tethered chargers grant eligible?
Yes — 22kW commercial chargers qualify under the Workplace Charging Scheme, worth up to £350 per socket, capped at 40 sockets, for businesses, charities and public sector organisations installing chargers for staff and fleet vehicles. The grant covers 75% of the total purchase and installation cost up to that cap and is claimed by your OZEV-authorised installer.
Do I need three-phase power?
Yes — 22kW requires a three-phase supply, which most commercial premises have. Fitted to single phase, the charger delivers 7.4kW. Check the fleet's vehicles too: many vans and cars have an onboard AC charger capped at 7kW or 11kW and will draw only that regardless of the charger's rating. Read our guide to three-phase power and 22kW charging.
