It is the bracket that joins the charger to a post. Every charger has its own fixing centres — the pattern of holes on its back — so a plate is made for one model rather than being universal. The alternative is measuring and drilling a blank plate on site, which is slower, harder to get square, and leaves no margin for error on a powder-coated finish. Buying the right plate means the installer bolts the post together and hangs the charger, and it lines up first time.
Which chargers have a mounting plate available?

Do I need to buy a plate separately?
Not always. Most e.Park Multi Posts let you select your charger when ordering, and the matching plate is supplied with the post — the dual posts supply a pair for two identical chargers. You only need to buy plates separately if you already have a post, if you are fitting two different charger models on one dual post, or if you are replacing a charger with a different make and keeping the existing post. Select "no plate" on the post if you are covered.
What is a ground mount base?
A ground mount base fixes a post or charger to a hard surface without a full below-ground foundation — the Easee ground mount base (£110) and Evec vecBOLT ground mounting post (£285) both work this way, bolting to existing concrete or paving. It suits car parks and yards where the surface is already sound and you would rather not dig. Where there is no hard standing, or the post carries more weight, a proper foundation is the better answer — see post foundations.
Can I wall-mount a charger instead?
Nearly all home chargers are designed to wall-mount as standard and come with the fixings needed, so no extra plate is required if there is a suitable wall where the car parks. Mounting plates and posts exist for the cases where there is not — open driveways, bays in the middle of a car park, or walls that cannot be drilled. If you are unsure which route your installation needs, measure from the likely charger position to the car's charging port before deciding; that distance usually settles it.
