Why use an EV cable holder?

Because the alternative is the floor. A cable coiled on a driveway sits in standing water, gets walked on and eventually driven over — and the part that fails is the connector, which is the expensive end. A holder costs less than £55 against a replacement cable at £105 or more, and it also keeps the charging area tidy and free of a trip hazard, which matters on any shared or commercial parking. It is the accessory most owners wish they had bought at the same time as the charger.

Do tethered chargers need a cable holder?

Many do. Some tethered chargers include a cable hook or an integrated holster, and premium units such as the Andersen A2 hide the cable inside the body altogether — but plenty of tethered chargers leave you draping several metres of cable over the unit. If yours does, a wall-mounted holder gives the cable somewhere to live. It is untethered charger owners who need one most, since their cable comes off the charger entirely after each session.

Which cable holder should I choose?

Any of them will do the job; the difference is finish and how much cable they carry. The NexBlue hook (£38) is the simplest and cheapest. The Easee black U-hook (£40) matches Easee chargers visually, and the premium version (£55) is the more substantial fitting for heavier 22kW cables, which are noticeably thicker and stiffer than 7kW ones. If you have a long or three-phase cable, choose the sturdier option.

Where should a cable holder be fitted?

Close enough to the charger that the connector reaches it without stretching, and high enough that the loop of cable hangs clear of the ground. On a wall beside the charger is usual; on a post installation, check whether the post has a fixing point or whether the holder needs to go on a nearby wall or fence instead. Take the cable's own weight into account when choosing fixings — a 10m 22kW cable is heavy, and a holder pulling out of soft masonry helps nobody.
