The fittings that finish an EV charger installation neatly and to regulation: 100A terminal blocks for taking the charger supply from the meter tails, cable glands for sealed entries into the consumer unit and charger, and fire rated clips for supporting the supply cable. We stock the WCED WTB5 100A single pole terminal block (Henley block) as a brown, blue and green/yellow set for £15 or singly for £5.50, CTC DTGM25 25mm black dome glands in packs of 2 for £5, and LINIAN 1LSB1518 fire rated SuperClips for 15–18mm cable in packs of 25 for £10.
What is a Henley block and do I need one for an EV charger?
A Henley block is a 100A terminal block that splits or extends the meter tails, so a separate supply can be taken for an EV charger's own consumer unit without changing the main board. A single-phase split needs three: brown for line, blue for neutral and green/yellow for earth, which is why the WCED WTB5 is sold as a matched set. Work on meter tails must be done by a qualified electrician, and the main fuse may need removing by the DNO or energy supplier first.
Which gland do I need for the EV supply cable?
The CTC DTGM25 is a 25mm dome top stuffing gland for round cable from 13mm to 18mm, which covers the Doncaster EV-Ultra cable at approximately 16mm overall. Tighten the dome to seal the cable where it enters the consumer unit, isolator or charger. The pack of 2 gives one for each end of the run. It is not suitable for flat twin and earth cable.
Why do EV cables need fire rated clips?
BS 7671 requires cables to be supported so they won't collapse prematurely in a fire, which plastic-only fixings can't guarantee. The LINIAN SuperClip is a single-piece steel clip, tested to BS EN 50200 for 120 minutes, that pushes into a 10mm hole with no plugs or screws. The 15–18mm size fits the Doncaster EV-Ultra cable, and the clips are corrosion resistant and UV stable for external runs.
What else do I need for a complete EV charger install?
Alongside these fittings, a typical home install needs a dedicated EV consumer unit, a short meter tails pack to connect it, and an EV supply cable to the charger. If you'd rather buy everything in one go, our EV installation kits bundle the charger, consumer unit, cable and fixings together.
