What is Octopus Intelligent Go?

Intelligent Octopus Go is Octopus Energy's smart EV tariff. Instead of simply giving you a fixed cheap window and leaving you to set a timer, it connects directly to your charger or car, learns when you need the vehicle ready by, and schedules charging into the cheapest hours available on the grid that night. You tell it your target charge and ready-by time in the app; it does the rest. Any charging Octopus schedules outside the standard off-peak window is still billed at the off-peak rate, so you are not penalised for letting it decide. Which EV chargers work with Octopus Intelligent Go?

The chargers on this page all have a direct integration with Intelligent Octopus Go. That includes both Ohme models — the Ohme Home Pro tethered (from £526) and the Ohme ePod untethered (£496), which are the most closely associated with Octopus — along with the MyEnergi Zappi range, the Andersen A2, A3 and Quartz, the Indra Smart PRO and Smart LUX, the VCHRGD Seven Pro, both NexBlue Point models and the Simpson & Partners Home Series V3. Do I need a compatible charger, or does my car handle it?

Either works. Intelligent Octopus Go can integrate through a compatible charger or through a compatible vehicle, and you only need one of the two. A compatible charger is generally the more reliable route, because it works regardless of what you drive now or in a few years' time — if you change cars, the integration stays put. If your car is on Octopus's supported list and your charger is not, you can still use the tariff, but the charger stays a passive device and any future change of vehicle may break the setup.

What is the difference between Intelligent Octopus Go and Octopus Go?

Octopus Go gives you a fixed cheap window each night and you schedule charging into it yourself, using your charger's app. Intelligent Octopus Go is the smart version: it needs a compatible charger or car, and in return it manages the charging session for you and can extend cheap-rate charging beyond the standard window when the grid is favourable. Intelligent Octopus Go generally suits people charging most nights who want it handled automatically; the standard tariff suits people who prefer to control the schedule themselves. What is the cheapest Octopus Intelligent Go compatible charger?

The most affordable compatible charger we stock is the VCHRGD Seven Pro 7.4kW untethered at £390, with the tethered version at £446. Next up are the Indra Smart PRO at £435, the NexBlue Point and Point 2 at £485 and the Ohme ePod at £496. At the premium end, the Andersen A2 (from £1,180) and the freestanding Simpson & Partners Home Series V3 Plus (£1,175) offer the same tariff integration with a considerable step up in design and finish. Can I switch tariffs later without changing charger?

Most of the chargers on this page also integrate with other smart tariffs — several are compatible with OVO Charge Anytime as well, and all of them support manual scheduling with any time-of-use tariff on the market. Buying a charger with more than one integration is worth doing if there is any chance you will switch supplier, since it avoids being locked to one energy company by your hardware.
