What is the OZEV EV chargepoint grant and how much is it worth?

OZEV is the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, the government body that runs the UK's EV charging grant schemes. The EV chargepoint grant provides up to £350 off the cost of buying and installing a home charger, and the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) provides up to £350 per socket, capped at 40 sockets, for businesses installing chargers for staff and fleet vehicles. There are also dedicated grants for landlords and for residential car parks. Which EV chargers are OZEV approved?

Only smart chargers that meet the government's technical specification qualify — they must be able to be remotely controlled, record energy use and support scheduled charging. Who is eligible for the OZEV grant?

The home EV chargepoint grant is aimed at people who could not previously claim under the old homeowner scheme — principally renters and flat owners with private off-street parking, plus landlords installing chargers for tenants. You need an eligible electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle, a suitable off-street parking space, and the work must be carried out by an OZEV-authorised installer. Businesses claim through the Workplace Charging Scheme instead, which is open to companies, charities and public sector organisations with dedicated off-street parking for staff or fleet. How do I claim the OZEV grant?

You do not claim it yourself. Your OZEV-authorised installer applies on your behalf and deducts the grant from your bill, so you pay the reduced amount upfront rather than waiting for a refund. In practice that means the order of events matters: confirm the charger is on the approved list (everything on this page is), then book an authorised installer, and let them handle the paperwork.
