Is it safe to run power and data in the same cable?

Yes, in this cable. The power and data conductors are rated to the same nominal voltage, which is the condition in BS 7671 Regulation 528.1 that allows them to share one wiring system. The data pairs are screened and twisted to limit interference, and Doncaster recommends terminating the screen to earth.

How do I order the length I need?

Each unit is one metre. Set the quantity to the number of metres your run needs, for example a quantity of 15 for a 15 metre run.

Is 6mm² cable suitable for a 7kW home charger?

The manufacturer's maximum current rating is 58A, against the 32A drawn by a 7.4kW single-phase charger. The rating that applies on a real job depends on run length, installation method and grouping, so the installing electrician must confirm the size against BS 7671.

Can it be buried underground?

It can be laid direct in the ground only where suitable mechanical protection is in place. It is also rated for installation in air, clipped to a surface, on cable tray or ladder, and embedded in concrete.

What is the Cat5e data cable used for?

It gives the charge point a hard-wired data link, such as an Ethernet connection or a connection to an energy monitoring device, so the charger does not have to rely on Wi-Fi.

How thick is the cable and how tight can it bend?

The overall diameter is approximately 16.0mm and it weighs approximately 0.41kg per metre. The minimum bending radius is 8 x the overall diameter, roughly 128mm.
