No Longer Required
We’re happy to accept returns on unwanted items with a 25% restocking fee. Just make sure they’re in like-new condition, unused, and still in the original packaging, ready for resale. The buyer covers the return shipping, and returns should be made within 14 days of delivery. Please note that some specially imported or custom-made items can’t be returned. What does bi-directional actually mean here?

A conventional protective device assumes energy travels one way, from the supply towards the load. A bi-directional RCBO is designed to operate correctly with current flowing in either direction, which is what happens once solar PV, battery storage or a vehicle capable of exporting energy is part of the installation.

Is this the right unit for a V2G or vehicle-to-home setup?

Bi-directional protection is the reason such a device is chosen, and FuseBox list solar PV and battery storage as intended applications. Whether it suits a specific V2G charger is a question for the charger manufacturer and your electrician, working to BS 7671.

This is 32A rather than 40A. Does that matter?

The RCBO is rated 32A, which matches a 7.4kW single-phase charger drawing 32A. The Lewden units in this range are 40A devices. Which rating is correct depends on the charger, the cable and the design current, so it is not a case of bigger being better.

Do I still need a separate surge protector?

Not for this circuit. A Type 2 SPD is built into the unit to divert transient overvoltages away from the charger and connected equipment.
