We’re happy to accept returns on unwanted items with a 25% restocking fee. Just make sure they’re in like-new condition, unused, and still in the original packaging, ready for resale. Summary

What does bi-directional actually mean here?

A conventional protective device assumes energy travels one way, from the supply towards the load. A bi-directional RCBO is designed to operate correctly with current flowing in either direction, which is what happens once solar PV, battery storage or a vehicle capable of exporting energy is part of the installation.

Is this the right unit for a V2G or vehicle-to-home setup?

Bi-directional protection is the reason such a device is chosen. Whether it suits a specific V2G charger is a question for the charger manufacturer and the electrician designing the installation to BS 7671.

Can it be mounted outdoors?

Yes. The IP65 enclosure is sealed against dust and low pressure water jets, so the unit can be fitted outside next to the charger.

Does this unit include PME fault detection?

No. PME (open-PEN) fault detection is fitted to the GS8EV40PME, GCS8EV40PME and G6EV40PME in this range, not to the GMS5EV40R. Where open-PEN protection is needed on a TN-C-S supply and is not provided by the charger itself, choose one of those units or check the charger specification.

Do I still need a separate surge protector for this circuit?

No. A Type 2 SPD is built into the unit to divert transient overvoltages away from the charger and connected equipment.

What is the 100A isolator for?

It is the main switch incomer for the unit, giving a single point of isolation for the assembly. Maximum backup protection is 100A and the terminals accept up to 35mm conductors.
