Summary

The Nayax EV Meter Pay is a 22kW single socket EV charger with a VPOS Touch card terminal built into the unit, so a driver taps a bank card and charges, with no app, account or membership to set up first.

The Type 2 socket is untethered and takes up to 22kW on a three-phase supply, with 4G connectivity and an activated SIM supplied. Nayax handles the billing and clearing, and the stated 10 pounds monthly service fee covers the payment terminal and one OCPP connector. PEN fault detection and 6mA DC protection are built in.

What we think

If you want to charge the public for charging, this is the shortest route to doing it. Most commercial chargers need a driver to download an app or register an account before they can plug in — the EV Meter Pay simply takes a card, which removes the biggest reason drivers walk away from a charge point.

The £10 monthly service fee covers the payment terminal and one OCPP connector, so the running cost is clear from the start. With 4G included, PEN protection and 6mA DC built in, it is a straightforward unit to install and an easy one to explain to a site owner.

What does a driver actually have to do to charge?

Plug in their own Type 2 cable and tap a card on the VPOS Touch terminal on the front of the unit. There is no app to download, no account to register and no RFID fob to be issued, which is why card payment suits public and semi-public sites where most drivers are visiting once. Debit and credit cards, digital wallets, prepaid and NFC are all accepted.

What does the site owner need in place to run it?

The charger, a suitable supply and a Nayax arrangement for the payments. Nayax takes care of the billing and clearing behind the transactions, and the fee quoted for this unit is 10 pounds a month covering the payment terminal and one OCPP connector. Sessions can be managed on Nayax's EV Meter Core platform or on your own OCPP back office.

Do I need a three-phase supply for 22kW?

To reach the full 22kW, yes. That output is 3 x 32A and requires a three-phase supply. The unit will also run on single phase at a lower output, so it can still be installed where three-phase is not available, just with slower charging.

Is a charging cable supplied?

No. This is a socketed, untethered charger and drivers use their own Type 2 cable. On a public or pay-per-use site that is the sensible arrangement, because it fits every vehicle and leaves nothing hanging on the unit to be damaged or stolen.

Can I manage it with software other than Nayax's?

Yes. It supports OCPP 1.6, so charging sessions can be monitored and controlled through Nayax EV Meter Core or through any other OCPP back office you already run. The payment side stays with Nayax and the terminal built into the unit.

Can I claim a grant towards it?

Businesses, charities and public sector organisations can apply to the Workplace Charging Scheme, which covers up to 75% of purchase and installation costs, capped at 500 pounds per socket and 40 sockets per applicant. This is a single socket unit, so it counts as one socket. Funding is confirmed to 31 March 2027.
