The Ohme Home Pro is a 7.4kW tethered charger, and you choose the cable length at checkout, 5m or 8m, depending on how far the car parks from the wall. It has a built-in LCD screen, so you can see what a charge is doing without reaching for your phone.

Should I choose the 5m or the 8m cable?

Measure from where the charger will be mounted to your car's charging port, then allow slack so the lead hangs without straining. 5m covers most garage and driveway installs. Pick the 8m if you park further out, park on the street side, or turn the car round on some days.

How does the tariff integration work?

Once your Ohme account is linked to Intelligent Octopus Go or OVO Charge Anytime, the charger receives the half-hourly rates and plans around the cheapest windows. You tell it when the car needs to be ready and it works backwards from there.

Does it need my home Wi-Fi?

No. A multi-network 3G/4G SIM is built into the unit, which helps when the driveway sits at the far end of the house. Smart scheduling and app control both run over that connection.

How much range does 7.4kW add?

Roughly 25 to 30 miles per hour of charging on most EVs, so a normal overnight window fills the battery comfortably. Cars with a lower onboard AC limit, 3.6kW for instance, will charge at their own rate rather than the charger's.

Can it charge from solar panels?

Yes, with a CT clamp fitted at the incoming supply so the unit can see excess generation. Without that clamp it still works as a smart charger, it just cannot tell solar from grid import.

Will the OZEV grant cover it?

Only if you live in a flat or rent your home and have off-street parking. The EV Chargepoint Grant no longer covers homeowners in houses. Where it does apply, an OZEV-authorised installer claims the money on your behalf.
