We’re happy to accept returns on unwanted items with a 25% restocking fee. Just make sure they’re in like-new condition, unused, and still in the original packaging, ready for resale. Summary

The untethered Solo 3S has a Type 2 socket instead of a fixed lead. You plug in your own cable and take it away with you, which keeps the wall tidy and lets you pick whatever cable length suits where you park. At 3.5kg it is also lighter than the tethered version.

Will I need to buy a cable?

Only if you do not already have one. This model has a Type 2 socket, and most EVs are supplied with a Type 2 cable in the boot. Buying your own also means choosing the length, which a tethered charger decides for you.

How long will a full charge take?

At 7.4kW most EVs gain 25 to 30 miles of range an hour, so a 60kWh battery goes from low to full in a normal overnight session. Your car's own AC charging limit applies if it happens to be lower than 7.4kW.

Does it support off-peak charging?

Yes, by scheduling. The Pod Point app lets you choose the hours charging is allowed, so you can pin it to your tariff's cheap overnight window and then leave it alone.

Is it suitable if I have solar?

Yes, it is listed as solar compatible and works with existing or future panels. Talk the detail through with your installer, since what is required depends on how your solar system and meter are arranged.

Why choose this over the tethered version?

Mainly appearance and flexibility. Nothing is left dangling on the wall, the unit is smaller and lighter to look at, and you are free to use a short or long cable as your parking dictates. The trade-off is fetching the cable each time.

Am I entitled to the OZEV grant?

The EV Chargepoint Grant now covers flats and rented homes with off-street parking rather than homeowners generally. If that describes you, the claim is made by an OZEV-authorised installer as part of the installation.
