We’re happy to accept returns on unwanted items with a 25% restocking fee. Just make sure they’re in like-new condition, unused, and still in the original packaging, ready for resale. The buyer covers the return shipping, and returns should be made within 14 days of delivery. Please note that some specially imported or custom-made items can’t be returned. The Ratio io8 22kW dual socket with MID metering pairs two 22kW Type 2 sockets with a 1.5m ambient lighting column, running on a three-phase supply. In the UK, only MID-certified readings can be used to charge someone money by the kWh, which is what makes pay-per-use bays, tenant recharging and staff reimbursement legally sound.

Why pay more for MID metering?

Because without it you cannot legally charge for the electricity. A MID-certified meter is the UK's legal standard for measurement used in trade, so its readings can be invoiced and stand up if a driver or tenant disputes a bill. The cheaper CT version of this charger measures energy for load management and reporting, and those figures cannot be used to take payment. If a single penny changes hands per kWh, this is the version to order.

Is a three-phase supply essential?

To get 22kW from each socket, yes. That output needs 3 x 32A at 400V. Plenty of commercial sites already have three-phase, but if yours does not, the 7.4kW io8 gives you the same column, the same ambient lighting and the same MID metering on a single-phase supply.

How does the io8 differ from the io7?

They share the charging platform, the dual Type 2 sockets, the metering options and OCPP 1.6. The difference is in the lighting and the finish. The io7 uses directional LED optics with a photocell to light the charging bay itself, while the io8 provides ambient lighting for the wider area and comes with the 4G SIM included and a configurable cable lock as standard.

Can two cars charge and be billed separately?

Yes. Both sockets run at the same time and each has its own MID-certified metering, so every session is measured and invoiced on its own. The available three-phase supply is shared between the two bays automatically.

Which billing platform does it work with?

Any OCPP 1.6 back office, including Ratio's own app. The charger supplies the certified kWh figures and the platform applies your tariff, handles authorisation and produces the session records, so you are not locked to one software provider.

Is there funding available for installing it?

The Workplace Charging Scheme covers businesses, charities and public sector organisations for up to 75% of purchase and installation costs, capped at 500 pounds per socket with a maximum of 40 sockets per applicant. This dual socket unit counts as two sockets, and funding is confirmed to 31 March 2027.
