We’re happy to accept returns on unwanted items with a 25% restocking fee. Just make sure they’re in like-new condition, unused, and still in the original packaging, ready for resale. Summary

The Ratio io8 7.4kW dual socket with CT metering is the entry point into the io8 range, a 1.5m ambient lighting column with two 7.4kW Type 2 sockets on a single-phase supply. CT clamps keep charging within whatever headroom the site has, and the ambient LED head lights the parking area.

What CT metering cannot do is support a bill. It is not MID-certified, so no reading from it is legally valid for charging per kWh. If you plan to sell the electricity, order the MID version instead. 4G SIM included, RFID access and OCPP 1.6.

Should I be buying the CT version or the MID version?

It comes down to one question. Is anybody paying for the electricity? If not, CT is right, because it does the job of protecting the supply and showing you what is being consumed. If somebody is paying by the kWh, CT is the wrong choice, because its readings are not MID-certified and UK law does not accept them as a basis for billing. Free staff, resident and visitor charging is what this version is designed for.

Does it need any special electrical supply?

No. The 7.4kW io8 runs from a standard single-phase 230V supply, so most sites can take it without a network upgrade. Only the 22kW version calls for three-phase power.

What is the practical difference between the io7 and the io8?

Both are Ratio dual socket charging bollards with the same power and metering options and OCPP 1.6. The io7 lights the charging bay itself with directional LED optics under photocell control, while the io8 casts ambient light across the wider area, and the io8 arrives with the 4G SIM included and a configurable cable lock as standard.

Can two vehicles charge together?

Yes. Both sockets are live at the same time and the CT load balancing decides how the available capacity is split, holding charging back if the rest of the site starts drawing more, so a busy period never puts the main supply at risk.

Do I have to use Ratio's app?

No. OCPP 1.6 support means the charger will report to the Ratio App or to any other OCPP back office for monitoring, RFID access lists and reporting. The 4G SIM is included, so it can connect even where there is no site network.

Is grant funding available for this?

Yes. Businesses, charities and public sector organisations can apply to the Workplace Charging Scheme for up to 75% of purchase and installation costs, capped at 500 pounds per socket and 40 sockets per applicant. This dual socket unit counts as two sockets, and funding is confirmed to 31 March 2027.
