How do drivers pay at this charger?

They tap a contactless bank card, phone or watch on the built-in Payter terminal and the session starts, with no app, no RFID card and no account. The terminal is certified to EMVCo Level 1, so it accepts standard contactless cards the same way a shop card machine does.

Do I need a merchant account, and where does the money go?

Card transactions and tariffs are handled through the chargepoint management system you connect the unit to over OCPP 1.6J, and Rolec state that the terminal is subject to Payter fees payable directly to Payter. Exactly how funds are settled to you depends on which management platform you choose, so confirm the merchant and settlement arrangements with that provider before you order.

What charging speed does 7.4kW give a visitor?

Around 25 to 30 miles of range an hour, so a two-hour shopper or a half-day visitor gets a genuinely useful top-up. Cars with a lower onboard AC limit draw less, which is a vehicle limitation rather than a charger one.

Does adding contactless affect grant eligibility?

No. The Workplace Charging Scheme judges sockets, not payment method, and pays up to 75 per cent of purchase and installation costs at a cap of 500 pounds per socket, 40 sockets per applicant, with funding confirmed to 31 March 2027. This single socket unit counts as one.

Should I expect complaints that no cable is attached?

Rarely. Almost every EV is sold with a Type 2 cable and public sites are overwhelmingly socket only, so drivers arrive expecting to use their own lead. It also means the unit serves every Type 2 vehicle rather than being tied to one cable length.

What is fitted as standard alongside the terminal?

4G, Wi-Fi and Ethernet, OCPP 1.6J, Class 1 MID metering, a 30mA Type A RCBO with 6mA DC protection, and PME fault detection so no earth rod is needed. The housing is 1.5mm steel, IP54 and IK10, and the warranty runs 3 years.
