The Kia EV3 has quickly become one of the UK's best-selling electric cars, making the top five battery-electric models in September 2026's SMMT figures. If you have one on order, the next decision is which home charger to fit.
The good news is that it is a simple choice. The EV3 uses the same Type 2 connector as almost every other EV on UK roads, so you are not tied to any brand. This guide covers how fast the EV3 charges at home, which charger suits which driver, and what it costs to run.
Kia EV3 connector and charging speed
The EV3 has a CCS Type 2 inlet. The upper Type 2 section is what you use for AC home charging; the two extra DC pins below are only for rapid public chargers.
Both battery options have an on-board charger rated at up to 11kW AC. That only matters if you have a three-phase supply, which is rare in UK homes. On the standard single-phase supply, every home charger is limited to about 7kW, so a 7kW wallbox is the right choice for almost every EV3 owner.
How long does a Kia EV3 take to charge?
| Charger | EV3 Standard Range (58.3kWh) | EV3 Long Range (81.4kWh) |
|---|---|---|
| 3-pin plug (2.3kW) | ~28h 15m | ~40h |
| 7.4kW home charger (single-phase) | ~8h 45m | ~12h 30m |
| 11kW charger (three-phase only) | ~6h | ~8h 30m |
Times are 0–100% estimates. In practice most drivers plug in at 20–40% and charge to 80–90%, which a 7kW charger handles comfortably within a typical overnight off-peak window.
The 5 best home chargers for a Kia EV3
1. Ohme Home Pro (best overall)
The Ohme Home Pro is our best-selling charger and the easiest way to get the cheapest overnight rates. It has native Octopus Intelligent Go integration, so Octopus talks directly to the charger and you only need one app. It also has built-in PEN fault detection, an interactive LCD screen and a tethered cable in a choice of 5m or 8m.
Ohme Home Pro
Choose a 5m or 8m cable. Prefer a socket? The Ohme ePod has the same Octopus integration.
2. VCHRGD Seven Pro (best budget pick)
The VCHRGD Seven Pro is the lowest-cost charger we stock that is confirmed compatible with Intelligent Octopus Go. Built-in PEN fault protection and a CT clamp in the box can both reduce installation costs. Choose the untethered version to use the cable supplied with your EV3, or the tethered version with its long 7.5m cable.
VCHRGD Seven Pro (untethered)
Also available tethered with a 7.5m cable.
3. Indra Smart PRO (best for OVO customers)
The Indra Smart PRO appears on both the OVO Charge Anytime and Octopus Intelligent Go compatible lists, so you can switch between the UK's two biggest EV tariffs without your charger being stuck on manual timers. Read our full Indra Smart PRO review.
Indra Smart PRO
Untethered Type 2 socket, solar compatible.
4. myenergi Zappi (best for solar panels)
If you have solar panels, the Zappi can send surplus generation straight into your EV3 instead of exporting it to the grid. It also works with Intelligent Octopus Go through the myenergi app, so you get free solar charging by day and cheap-rate charging overnight. The Zappi 3 GLO is the most affordable way into the range.
myenergi Zappi 3 GLO
Tethered, single-phase 7.4kW. The Zappi 2.1 is also available tethered or untethered.
5. Easee One (best if a second EV is coming)
The Easee One is a compact untethered charger with excellent load balancing. Paired with an Easee Equalizer it can share your home's available power across two chargers, which makes it a good choice if a second EV is likely. Note that Easee is not currently on the Intelligent Octopus Go compatible list. See our guide to charging two electric cars at home.
Easee One
Untethered: use the Type 2 cable supplied with your EV3.

The EV Chargepoint Grant covers 75% of the cost of the charger and installation, up to £500 per socket, but only for renters, flat owners and landlords. Owner-occupiers of houses are not eligible.

Kia EV3 home charging questions
What is the best home charger for a Kia EV3?
For most UK EV3 owners the Ohme Home Pro is the best all-round choice. The VCHRGD Seven Pro is the lowest-cost Octopus-compatible option, the Indra Smart PRO suits OVO customers, and the myenergi Zappi is best if you have solar panels.
How long does a Kia EV3 take to charge at home?
On a 7.4kW home charger, the 58.3kWh Standard Range EV3 takes around 8 hours 45 minutes from 0 to 100%, and the 81.4kWh Long Range takes around 12 hours 30 minutes. Most owners top up from 20–30% overnight, which takes far less time.
Do I need an 11kW or 22kW charger for the Kia EV3?
Only if your home has a three-phase supply. The EV3 can accept up to 11kW AC, but almost all UK homes are single-phase, which limits any home charger to about 7kW. A 22kW charger gives no extra speed because the car's on-board charger tops out at 11kW. See 7kW vs 22kW EV chargers.
What connector does the Kia EV3 use?
The Kia EV3 uses a CCS Type 2 inlet. The Type 2 part is used for AC home charging, so any UK Type 2 home charger is compatible.
Can I use Octopus Intelligent Go with a Kia EV3?
Yes. The most reliable route is a charger on Octopus's compatible list, such as the Ohme Home Pro, VCHRGD Seven Pro, Indra Smart PRO or NexBlue Point 2. The charger handles the scheduling, and the integration stays in place if you change car. See our Octopus-compatible chargers guide.
Can I get a grant for a Kia EV3 home charger?
Only if you rent, own a flat or are a residential landlord. Since 1 April 2026 the EV Chargepoint Grant covers 75% of the cost of the charger and installation, up to £500 per socket. Owner-occupiers of houses are not eligible. See our 2026 grants guide.
