EV Chargers Compatible with Octopus Energy

If you are on Octopus Energy — or thinking about switching — choosing the right EV charger unlocks some of the cheapest home charging rates in the UK. With Intelligent Octopus Go, a compatible smart charger can automatically charge your car at around 8p per kWh overnight, compared to roughly 26p on a standard variable tariff. That is a saving of close to 70% on every charge.

The catch: you need a charger that Octopus can actually talk to. Plenty of smart chargers do not qualify. This guide covers every charger we stock that Octopus's own eligibility checker confirms as supported, with current prices and honest recommendations for different budgets and setups — and, just as importantly, the popular chargers that are not supported.

Quick answer: The Ohme Home Pro (from £526) offers the best Octopus integration thanks to its native connection — Octopus can directly control your charging sessions. For solar panel owners, the MyEnergi Zappi is the standout choice. On a tight budget, the VCHRGD Seven Pro (£380) or Indra Smart PRO (£435) deliver confirmed Octopus compatibility at the lowest prices.

How Octopus Intelligent Go Works

Intelligent Octopus Go is a smart EV tariff that gives you access to cheap electricity — currently around 8p per kWh — during off-peak hours. The standard off-peak window runs from 11:30pm to 5:30am for your whole home, and Octopus will also smart-charge your car outside that window when the grid is favourable, still billed at the off-peak rate.

Here is how it works in practice:

1. You tell the Octopus app when you need your car ready (e.g. "fully charged by 7am").

2. Octopus schedules the charging during the cheapest half-hourly slots, spreading it across the night to balance grid demand.

3. Your charger receives the schedule and automatically starts and stops charging at the optimal times.

4. You wake up to a full battery having paid a fraction of the daytime electricity rate.

For this to work, Octopus needs to connect to either your charger or your car — you only need one of the two. This guide covers the charger route, which is the more durable option because the integration survives you changing vehicle.

Native vs App-Compatible: What is the Difference?

Native integration (like Ohme chargers) means Octopus talks directly to your charger. You set everything in the Octopus app and do not need a second app. This gives you the smoothest experience and the most accurate smart scheduling.

App-compatible chargers work with Intelligent Go but you manage charging through the charger's own app. Octopus recognises the charger and applies the cheap rate, but the scheduling happens in the charger app. The result is the same — cheap overnight charging — but setup takes a couple of extra steps.

All Octopus-Compatible Chargers We Stock

Every charger below was checked against Octopus's own eligibility tool. Prices are current at the time of writing and exclude installation.

NATIVE INTEGRATION Ohme

Ohme chargers have the deepest Octopus integration of any brand. The chargers connect natively to the Octopus app — you set your target charge level and departure time in the Octopus app and the charger does the rest.

Ohme Home Pro — 7.4kW, tethered (5m or 8m cable) — from £526
The Home Pro is the charger Octopus customers are pointed to most often. It features a built-in cable, an interactive LCD screen, and the native Octopus integration means you only need one app.

Ohme ePod — 7.4kW, untethered (socket) — £496
The compact Ohme option. Same native Octopus integration as the Home Pro but without a built-in cable — you plug in your own Type 2 cable. Ideal if you already have a cable or want the flexibility to use different lengths.

COMPATIBLE MyEnergi Zappi

The Zappi is one of the UK's best-selling smart chargers, especially popular with solar panel owners. It connects to Octopus Intelligent Go via the myenergi app and can automatically switch between solar surplus charging during the day and cheap-rate Octopus charging overnight. Octopus lists the Zappi as supported across all models, in both 7kW and 22kW.

MyEnergi Zappi 3 GLO — 7.4kW, tethered — £535
The newest Zappi with an illuminated ring design and streamlined app experience. Single-phase 7.4kW only, but the most affordable route into the Zappi range.

MyEnergi Zappi 2.1 — 7.4kW or 22kW, tethered or untethered — from £685
The headline feature is solar surplus mode: the Zappi monitors your solar generation and diverts excess energy to your car. Pair it with Octopus Intelligent Go for the best of both worlds — free solar charging by day, cheap-rate charging overnight.

COMPATIBLE Indra

Indra Smart PRO — 7.4kW, untethered — £435
One of the most affordable confirmed-compatible smart chargers on the market. A no-frills, well-built unit with app control, energy monitoring and scheduled charging.

Indra Smart LUX — 7.4kW, tethered — £555
The premium Indra with a built-in cable, solar integration support and an ultra-slim design. If you want a tethered charger with Octopus compatibility and solar surplus features, the LUX competes with the Zappi at a lower price point.

COMPATIBLE VCHRGD

VCHRGD Seven Pro — 7.4kW, untethered — £380 | tethered (7.5m) — £446
The cheapest confirmed Octopus-compatible charger we stock. Full smart functionality, built-in PEN fault protection, a CT clamp in the box and RFID access control. The tethered version ships with an unusually generous 7.5m cable.

COMPATIBLE Cord

Cord Zero — 7.4kW, untethered — £435 | tethered from £499
A compact, well-priced smart charger available in black or white. Cord appears on both the Octopus and OVO compatibility lists, which makes it a sensible choice if you might switch supplier later.

COMPATIBLE NexBlue

NexBlue Point 2 — 7.4kW, untethered — £485 | tethered (7.5m) — £560
Octopus lists the NexBlue Point, Point 2 and the 22kW Edge as supported. The Point 2 is the home model, with EcoPilot mode and dynamic load balancing.

COMPATIBLE Simpson & Partners

Simpson & Partners Home Series V3 — 7.4kW from £615 | 22kW available
British-made chargers with a strong design focus. Octopus lists the Home Basic and Home Plus as supported in both 7kW and 22kW.

COMPATIBLE Andersen

Andersen chargers are the design-led option, made in the UK with premium finishes that look more like furniture than electrical equipment. Octopus added Andersen support relatively recently and lists the A2, A3 and Quartz in both 7kW and 22kW.

Andersen Quartz 7kW — untethered from £675 | tethered from £730
Andersen A3 7kW — tethered from £965
Andersen A2 7kW — tethered from £1,180

The Quartz range is the most popular, with its clean lines and compact design. The A2 is the flagship with the widest choice of finishes. If aesthetics matter to you, Andersen is the clear winner — but you do pay a premium for the design.

Popular Chargers That Are NOT Compatible

This is where a lot of buyers come unstuck. The following chargers are excellent units and we stock them all — but Octopus's eligibility checker does not currently support them for Intelligent Octopus Go. If the tariff is your main reason for buying, choose from the list above instead.

Not supported by Intelligent Octopus Go: Easee (including the Easee One), Pod Point Solo, Zaptec Go, Go 2 and Pro, Rolec EVO and WallPod, Evec, Humax, VEVA, Ratio and Teltonika.

You can still use any of these on a standard time-of-use tariff such as Octopus Go and schedule charging manually in the charger's own app — you just will not get the automatic scheduling that Intelligent Octopus Go provides.

Octopus adds brands regularly, so this can change. If you already own one of these chargers, it is worth re-checking the Octopus eligibility tool from time to time, and remember you may still qualify through a compatible car instead.

How Much Will You Save with Octopus Intelligent Go?

The savings are significant. Here is a comparison for a typical UK driver doing 8,000 miles per year in an EV that averages 3.5 miles per kWh:

Charging Method Rate per kWh Annual Cost vs. Intelligent Go
Public rapid charger 70-80p £1,600-£1,830 You save £1,420+
Standard variable tariff ~26p £594 You save £411
Octopus Intelligent Go ~8p £183 —
The maths: 8,000 miles ÷ 3.5 mi/kWh = 2,286 kWh per year. At 8p/kWh on Intelligent Go, that is £183 per year to charge your car. At a typical 26p/kWh standard rate, it would be £594. That is a saving of around £411 per year — enough to pay for a VCHRGD Seven Pro in under a year.

If you have solar panels and a Zappi, the savings are higher again. During summer months you can charge largely from solar, reducing the cost of driving to close to zero.

Installation & Grants

What Does Installation Cost?

A typical home EV charger installation costs £300-£800 depending on the complexity of the job. The main factors affecting price are the distance from your consumer unit to the charger location, whether you need a new circuit or consumer unit upgrade, and whether any groundwork or cable routing through walls is required.

For a straightforward installation with the charger mounted on an outside wall within a few metres of the consumer unit, expect to pay around £300-£500. More complex installations involving longer cable runs, additional earthing, or a consumer unit upgrade will be towards the higher end.

EV Chargepoint Grant (75% Off, Up to £500)

The UK government's EV Chargepoint Grant (formerly the OZEV grant) covers 75% of the cost of buying and installing a home EV charger, up to £500 per socket (raised from £350 on 1 April 2026). To qualify:

You must: own or lease an eligible plug-in electric vehicle, live in a flat or rental property (homeowners in houses are no longer eligible), and use an OZEV-approved installer.

All chargers in this guide are OZEV-approved and eligible for the grant where the applicant qualifies. Your installer handles the grant application as part of the installation process.

Even if you do not qualify for the grant, the savings from Intelligent Octopus Go mean the charger pays for itself quickly. A VCHRGD Seven Pro at £380 plus £400 installation = £780 total. At £411 saved per year on charging costs, you break even in under two years.

How to Get Started

Frequently Asked Questions

What EV chargers are compatible with Octopus Intelligent Go?

Compatible chargers we stock include the Ohme Home Pro and ePod (native integration), the MyEnergi Zappi range, Indra Smart PRO and Smart LUX, VCHRGD Seven Pro, Cord Zero, NexBlue Point and Point 2, Simpson & Partners Home Series V3, and the Andersen A2, A3 and Quartz. Check the Octopus eligibility tool for the latest list, as brands are added regularly.

Is the Easee One compatible with Intelligent Octopus Go?

No. Octopus's eligibility checker does not currently support Easee chargers for Intelligent Octopus Go. The Easee One remains an excellent charger and works on standard time-of-use tariffs with manual scheduling in the Easee app — but it will not receive automatic scheduling from Octopus. The same applies to Pod Point, Zaptec, Rolec, Evec and Humax chargers.

How much can I save with Octopus Intelligent Go?

For a typical EV driver doing 8,000 miles per year, Intelligent Go at around 8p/kWh costs roughly £183 annually to charge. Compared to a standard tariff at around 26p/kWh (£594), that is a saving of roughly £411 per year.

Do I need a specific charger for Octopus Intelligent Go?

You need either a compatible charger or a compatible car — not both. Basic, non-smart chargers cannot receive scheduling instructions. Ohme chargers have the deepest native integration; other supported brands work via their own apps. Connecting through the charger is generally the more reliable route, because the integration stays in place if you change vehicle.

What is the cheapest Octopus-compatible EV charger?

The most affordable confirmed-compatible options we stock are the VCHRGD Seven Pro at £380, and the Indra Smart PRO and Cord Zero, both at £435.

Which Octopus-compatible charger is best for solar panels?

The MyEnergi Zappi is the clear winner for solar homes. It automatically diverts surplus solar energy to your car during the day, then switches to Octopus's cheap overnight rate when the sun goes down. The Indra Smart LUX also supports solar integration at a lower price.

Can I get a grant towards an Octopus-compatible EV charger?

The EV Chargepoint Grant covers 75% of the cost of purchase and installation, up to £500 per socket. It is currently available to tenants and flat-owners (homeowners in houses are no longer eligible). All the chargers in this guide are OZEV-approved and grant-eligible where the applicant qualifies.
